Ekiti IGR Rose to ₦51.75bn in 2025 as Records Challenge Government’s 2020 Baseline

Ekiti’s official fiscal records put internally generated revenue at ₦10.56bn in 2020 and ₦51.75bn in 2025. A government anniversary statement separately cited about ₦8bn for the 2020 baseline.

Ekiti IGR Hit ₦51.75bn in 2025, but Official Records Show Higher 2020 Baseline Than Government Claim

Ekiti State’s official fiscal records show internally generated revenue rising to about ₦51.75 billion in 2025, a substantial increase from the state’s recorded 2020 level.

But the records reviewed also show a discrepancy with a recent government anniversary statement about the 2020 starting point.

At an event marking Ekiti’s 30th anniversary, the state government said annual internally generated revenue had risen from about ₦8 billion in 2020 to more than ₦50 billion in 2025.

The 2025 figure is supported by the state’s official budget records.

The 2020 baseline cited at the anniversary event is not.

Official records put 2025 IGR at ₦51.75bn

Ekiti’s 2025 fourth-quarter budget performance report records full-year independent revenue of ₦51,751,795,152.60.

The report shows performance at about 107.7% of the final budget estimate for independent revenue.

That supports the government’s broader claim that annual IGR exceeded ₦50 billion in 2025.

The figure should not be confused with total state revenue, which also includes federal allocations and other receipts.

2020 record shows ₦10.56bn, not ₦8bn

Ekiti’s official 2020 Citizens’ Accountability Report records actual independent revenue of about ₦10.56 billion.

Using the two primary-record figures, IGR rose by about ₦41.19 billion between 2020 and 2025.

That is roughly a 390% increase over the 2020 recorded level.

The lower ₦8 billion baseline cited in the anniversary statement would imply a larger rate of growth.

Records do not explain the difference

The records reviewed do not establish why the government used the lower 2020 baseline.

Possible differences in accounting classification, revised figures or reporting periods cannot be treated as explanations unless the state provides evidence for them.

The safe position is therefore to preserve both figures separately:

  • ₦10.56bn: official 2020 record.
  • About ₦8bn: government anniversary claim.
  • ₦51.75bn: official 2025 record.

Revenue growth remains substantial

Even using the higher 2020 primary-record baseline, Ekiti’s increase to ₦51.75 billion in 2025 represents significant growth in internally generated revenue.

The accountability question now shifts from the size of the increase to what drove it, how sustainable it is and whether higher internally generated revenue translates into measurable improvements in public services and fiscal resilience.

Any subsequent explanation from the Ekiti State Government on the 2020 discrepancy would materially update the story.
