Anambra approves Upper Iweka remodelling, detailed plan pending
The Anambra State Executive Council has approved extending its urban regeneration programme to Upper Iweka, Onitsha. The government said a detailed master plan and design would be unveiled soon.
The decision was taken at the council’s November 2 meeting in Awka, according to a November 3 statement signed by Information Commissioner Law Mefor.
The government said the project would reshape the area’s land use, functionality and appearance, including parks and other public spaces.
Cost and construction timetable unspecified
The statement did not identify a contractor, project cost, construction start date or completion timetable.
It also did not set out the project’s boundaries. Executive approval alone does not establish that construction has begun.
The statement did not explain how access, trading or transport operations would be managed during implementation.
Separate directive concerns abandoned vehicles
At the same meeting, the council directed the Anambra Road Traffic Management Agency to issue a one-month notice to owners of vehicles abandoned on roads statewide.
The government said vehicles remaining after the notice expired would be impounded, removed and scrapped.
The abandoned-vehicle directive applies statewide and is separate from the Upper Iweka project approval.
