NSCDC uncovers tunnels at suspected drug hideout in Asaba

NSCDC uncovers underground tunnels at suspected Asaba drug hideout

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Delta State says its officers discovered underground passages inside a heavily fortified property in Asaba during an operation on October 12.

The NSCDC described the premises, around Fallingwater Colehouse, Yahweh Close, off Akara Junction along the 74 Junction–Asaba Specialist Hospital axis, as a suspected drug hideout.

That description remains an agency allegation.

IDNN has not independently established that the property was being used for drug trafficking or other criminal activity.

Officers uncover underground passages

NSCDC spokesperson Anthony Akachukwu said officers found underground passages and reinforced access points after gaining entry to the property.

Akachukwu alleged that the passages were used by occupants to evade security operatives.

That claim has not been independently established.

The presence of underground passages does not by itself prove what they were built for, who used them or who controlled the property.

NSCDC reports suspected substances

The corps said officers recovered substances locally described as “Loud” and “Ice,” along with PVC gum and other materials.

Those descriptions remain part of the NSCDC account.

IDNN has not independently reviewed laboratory or forensic results confirming the composition or legal status of the recovered substances.

One man reportedly arrested

NSCDC said one man was arrested after allegedly arriving at the premises to buy drugs.

That account remains an allegation by the agency.

The arrest does not establish that the man committed any drug offence, and the stated purpose of his visit has not been independently verified.

Ownership remains unclear

NSCDC says it is still investigating who owns or controls the property.

That question is central to responsibility for the premises and any activity that may have taken place there.

Until ownership, control and use are established through evidence, no individual or organisation should be linked to the site as a matter of fact.

Wider crime links remain under investigation

NSCDC officials also said investigators were examining whether the property had connections to kidnapping or other criminal activity.

No such connection has been established on the current evidence.

Any wider organised-crime angle should therefore remain separate from the verified discovery until further evidence emerges.

Investigation becomes the next test

The next stage is the evidence.

Authorities will need to establish who controlled the property, what the underground passages were used for, whether the recovered substances test positive for prohibited drugs and what legal case, if any, can be sustained against those connected to the premises.

For now, the verified position remains limited: NSCDC says it uncovered underground passages at an Asaba property it suspects was being used as a drug hideout, while ownership, substance testing and wider crime links remain under investigation.
