Police in the Federal Capital Territory say three men are in custody over an investigation into a suspected “one-chance” robbery operation in Abuja.
The FCT Police Command said officers intercepted two suspects around Court of Appeal Junction on September 20 while they were in a Toyota Camry.
Police named the two men as Okwudili Benjamin, 41, and Chinedu Mbaka, 37.
According to the command, officers recovered nine Android phones, pliers, a wheel lock and other items from the vehicle.
The police have not publicly established that every recovered phone was stolen or identified the owners of the devices.
Third suspect arrested in Nyanya
Police said further investigation led detectives to NPC Junction in Nyanya, where a third man, Osondu Benard, was arrested.
The command described him as an alleged receiver linked to the suspected operation.
That remains a police allegation. His precise role has not been established by a court.
Police said the three suspects remain in custody while investigations continue.
No conviction has been established, and the public information reviewed by IDNN does not establish that charges have been filed in court.
What police still need to establish
The arrests leave several important questions for investigators.
Who owns the nine recovered phones?
Can any of the devices be linked to reported robberies or identified victims?
What evidence connects each suspect to specific alleged offences?
And when will the investigation move to charging decisions or release where evidence is insufficient?
Those distinctions matter because recovery of suspected exhibits and arrest during an investigation do not establish criminal guilt.
Separate from AK-47 recovery
The arrests should not be confused with a separate FCT Police security investigation involving the recovery of two AK-47 rifles.
Although the cases appeared together in some reporting of recent police operations, the rifles were not reported by police as having been recovered from the suspects in this “one-chance” case.
For now, the established public account is that FCT Police say two men were intercepted around Court of Appeal Junction, a third alleged receiver was later arrested in Nyanya, and nine Android phones and other items were recovered as investigators continue their inquiries.
