Police say 35 cattle recovered after Patigi raid; four deaths remain part of official account
Police in Kwara State say 35 cattle were recovered after armed men attacked a cattle camp in Lade, Patigi Local Government Area, in an incident followed by a joint security operation in which four suspected members of the group were reported killed.
According to the Kwara State Police Command, the attack occurred at about 10 p.m. on September 11, when armed men entered the cattle camp, fired shots and left with about 40 cattle.
Police said personnel from the command, the Nigerian Army, Forest Guards and local vigilantes subsequently launched an operation to pursue the suspects.
Police report gun battle
The command said the joint team later encountered the suspects and exchanged gunfire with them.
Police said four suspected members of the group were killed during the confrontation, while others escaped.

Police said 35 of the approximately 40 cattle taken from the camp were recovered during the operation.

Police say the State Criminal Investigation Department in Ilorin is investigating the case.
That investigation is significant because the available public account of the operation is still dominated by security authorities directly involved in it.
