Edo Queens tear through AS GNN 7-0 as Moses fires WAFU-B warning
Edo Queens did not ease into their continental campaign.
They smashed the door open.
The NWFL Premiership champions demolished AS GNN 7-0 in Ouagadougou on Monday, launching their 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU-B qualifying campaign with the kind of result that immediately puts the rest of Group B on notice.
At the centre of the destruction was Chioma Moses, who scored a hat-trick and was named Player of the Match as the Nigerian champions overwhelmed their opponents.
Moses needed only five minutes to begin the rout, striking with a volley from inside the penalty area.
She struck again from the penalty spot in first-half stoppage time to send Edo Queens into the break with a 2-0 advantage.
Edo Queens turn pressure into punishment
Two minutes after the restart, Atume Doosuur converted a cut-back from Moses to make it 3-0.
Doosuur struck again in the 56th minute, finishing a move involving Moses and Aminat Folorunsho to complete her brace and push AS GNN further out of the contest.
Six minutes later, Folorunsho added the fifth after AS GNN failed to clear their lines.
By then, Edo Queens were no longer simply protecting an opening victory.
They were sending a message.
Moses completed her hat-trick in the 76th minute, making it 6-0 and sealing an individual performance that drove Nigeria’s champions through their first continental assignment.
Oluwakemi Adegbuyi then completed the rout in the third minute of stoppage time, curling home on her Edo Queens debut after another defensive error.
Seven goals.
Four different scorers.
No opening-night hesitation.
Moses takes control of Group B narrative
The hat-trick gives Moses the headline, but the scale of Edo Queens’ win matters beyond one player.
The Nigerian champions entered WAFU-B qualifying needing to negotiate a short group phase in which every result carries heavy weight.
A seven-goal victory does more than deliver three points.
It establishes momentum, strengthens goal difference and places immediate pressure on the teams still waiting to face them.
In the other Group B fixture, Ampem Darkoa defeated defending WAFU-B champions ASEC Mimosas 1-0.
That result sharpens Edo Queens’ next assignment.
They are scheduled to face ASEC Mimosas on August 27 before closing the group stage against Ampem Darkoa on August 30.
Nigeria’s champions make an immediate statement
Continental qualifiers can punish slow starts.
Edo Queens produced the opposite.
They scored early, accelerated after the break and kept attacking until stoppage time.
The result does not secure qualification by itself, and tougher tests remain ahead.
But the opening message could hardly have been clearer.
