The Federal Government has disclosed that the North-West region has received the largest share of capital projects under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, valued at ₦5.97 trillion, representing more than 40 percent of total federal allocations.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said in a statement that claims of lopsided development under Tinubu’s leadership were false, stressing that data showed a balanced spread of projects.
According to Idris, the South-South followed with ₦2.41 trillion, North-Central ₦1.13 trillion, South-West (excluding Lagos) ₦604 billion, South-East ₦407 billion, and North-East ₦400 billion.
“From verifiable data, the actual distribution of projects shows the North-West as the biggest beneficiary. President Tinubu has been guided by fairness, justice, and equity in the allocation of projects and appointments,” the minister stated.
But the announcement immediately drew political fire. Former Jigawa State governor and PDP chieftain Sule Lamido dismissed the claims, insisting that the North had suffered deeply under APC leadership.
Speaking at the PDP expanded caucus meeting in Dutse, Jigawa, Lamido accused APC governments of inflicting “poverty, insecurity, hardship, deceit, and betrayal” on Nigerians.
“No right-thinking northerner will vote for Tinubu in 2027,” Lamido declared, vowing that the PDP was regaining stability and would “do everything possible to save the country.”
The clash underscores the rising stakes ahead of the 2027 presidential race. Tinubu, who has faced mounting criticism over economic reforms, subsidy removal, and insecurity, is under pressure to consolidate support in northern Nigeria, a critical electoral bloc.
Analysts say the ₦5.97 trillion figure may not translate into electoral goodwill if living conditions remain dire. The PDP, despite internal divisions, appears to be rallying its northern leaders in preparation for a major showdown.
