APC Alleges Violence, Demands Cancellation of Kano By-Elections

By: IDNN Politics Desk

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has demanded the cancellation of the Kano State bye-elections in Shanono/Bagwai and Ghari constituencies, citing extreme violence and intimidation of voters.

In a statement issued on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the party said the elections were “marred by brigandage and outright violent voter intimidation” across several polling units.

According to the APC, thugs armed with dangerous weapons stormed polling stations, attacking voters and disrupting voting. Security personnel on duty were reportedly overwhelmed, forcing many citizens to abandon polling centres.

“Proceeding with the elections in the atmosphere of utter brigandage and violent intimidation is against democratic dictates of free, fair, and peaceful elections,” Morka declared.

He further warned that allowing the results to stand would set a dangerous precedent, undermining electoral integrity in Nigeria.

The APC urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to annul the process and safeguard democracy. However, INEC has not yet issued a formal response beyond confirming reports of disruptions and arrests.

Political analysts say the allegations reflect rising tensions in Kano’s volatile political environment, where competition between APC and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has often turned violent.
