Rivers United Ranked Highest Among Nigerian Clubs in Latest CAF Rankings

By: IDNN Sports News

Rivers United have been ranked 24th in Africa with 14 points in the latest Confederation of African Football (CAF) club rankings, making them Nigeria’s highest-placed team.

The Port Harcourt side’s sustained performances in recent CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup campaigns have kept them ahead of other Nigerian clubs, despite not yet reaching a continental final.

The latest rankings, published ahead of the 2025/26 CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup draws in Tanzania, are based on results from the past five seasons, with recent performances weighted more heavily.

Enyimba, Nigeria’s most successful club in continental competition with two CAF Champions League titles, are ranked 35th with seven points, reflecting early exits and inconsistent results in recent years.

Egypt’s Al Ahly lead the African standings with 78 points, followed by Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa (62 points) and Tunisia’s Espérance Sportive de Tunis (57 points).

Rivers United’s position will influence their seeding in the preliminary round draws, potentially giving them an advantage in avoiding top-tier opponents early in the competition.
