Injury Concerns for Bassey Ahead of Friendlies
Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey will miss Nigeria’s upcoming international friendlies against Iran and Jordan after withdrawing from the squad due to a back injury. The Nigeria Football Federation confirmed the news, stating that Bassey pulled out ahead of the team’s preparations in Antalya, Turkey.
Bassey’s injury will prevent him from participating in the Super Eagles’ first matches since their third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. The team had been eagerly anticipating the return of international action, but Bassey’s absence adds to the list of adjustments for head coach Eric Chelle.

Super Eagles Squad Update and Training Session
The Super Eagles opened camp on Tuesday, with 22 players already in attendance by Wednesday. The first training session was conducted without any issues, but Bassey’s absence was officially attributed to injury concerns.
With Bassey’s withdrawal, the squad will now move forward with the remaining defenders, preparing for the two upcoming friendlies.
Upcoming International Friendlies Against Iran and Jordan
Nigeria will face Iran on Friday, March 27, at 4:00 p.m. Nigerian time, followed by another match against Jordan on Monday, March 31. These friendlies are a key part of the Super Eagles’ preparations for future international tournaments and serve as a vital opportunity for team cohesion.
These matches mark the Super Eagles’ return to international football after their impressive AFCON campaign. The team is expected to use this period to refine strategies and blend new players into the squad for future challenges.
