Wike Sets Up 7-Member Panel for Apo Mechanic Relocation, Assures Compensation

WIKE: APO MECHANICS MUST MOVE — BUT WE’LL PAY YOU WELL

FCT Minister inaugurates 7-member panel for fair relocation to Wassa

By IDNN FCT Correspondent.

ABUJA — Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has set up a 7-member committee to manage the relocation of mechanics operating within the Apo Mechanic Village, assuring them of adequate compensation and fairness.

At the inauguration held Friday, Wike said the relocation to Wassa District was long overdue and aimed at decongesting key infrastructure corridors, improving sanitation, and freeing land for public projects.

Wike ground rent crackdown
“If you insist on staying in Apo, fine. But you must pay for your stubbornness when the time comes

> “I will never support forceful removal. That’s why we’re setting up this committee,” Wike stated.

The Minister said the Apo site has become overcrowded, unregulated, and environmentally unsafe, noting that proper planning is needed to transform Abuja into a world-class capital.

> “If you insist on staying in Apo, fine. But you must pay for your stubbornness when the time comes,” he warned humorously.

Wike reiterated that President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda emphasizes development with a human face.

The committee includes:

FCT Coordinator of Urban Development

Leaders from the Apo Mechanic Association

Representatives from the Department of Resettlement

Legal, engineering, and valuation experts

They’re tasked with mapping affected businesses, negotiating terms, and creating a transition plan that minimizes disruption.

> “Relocation is not punishment. It’s preparation for growth,” Wike concluded.
