Calvin Bassey Crowned Fulham Player of the Season After Rock-Solid Campaign

LONDON – June 14, 2025 | IDNN Nigerian Stars Abroad Desk

Calvin Bassey has capped off an outstanding Premier League season by winning Fulham’s Player of the Season award, with over 39% of total fan votes. The Nigerian defender outperformed teammate and compatriot Alex Iwobi, who finished second with 21.5%.

Defensive Leader, Fan Favourite

Since joining from Ajax in 2023, Bassey has grown into a cornerstone of Fulham’s defensive unit, anchoring the backline with physicality, composure, and grit.

He missed just three matches all season, amassing 3,074 minutes in 35 Premier League appearances. He started 34 of those and was subbed on once.

Fulham finished 11th with 54 points, just shy of a European spot, but Bassey’s consistency helped them stay solid across a demanding campaign.

 Goals, Stats, and Leadership

  • 🥅 2 goals in all competitions

  • ⚽ Scored in the EPL vs. Nottingham Forest

  • ⚽ Netted opener vs. Man United in FA Cup shock win at Old Trafford

  • 🛡️ Top 5 in EPL minutes played for defenders

In his speech, Bassey said:

“Thank you guys for voting me Player of the Season. Without God, I wouldn’t be where I am. Big up the team, the coaches, and every fan who supported me.”

 Iwobi Also Makes History

Alex Iwobi, who finished second in the voting, scored 9 goals and provided 6 assists, his best ever EPL return. He also became the first Nigerian to feature in all 38 matchdays for two straight Premier League seasons.

Super Eagles Shine Abroad

With both players delivering career-best seasons, Fulham’s Nigerian duo continue to raise the bar for Super Eagles abroad — and Bassey’s latest honour puts him firmly on the radar for even bigger stages.
