Wike Revokes PDP National Secretariat Land Over 20 Years of Unpaid Rent

The PDP secretariat land in Abuja has been revoked by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, due to 20 years of unpaid rent. This decision was announced in a letter dated March 13, 2025, raising questions about whether it is routine enforcement or politically motivated.

The revocation notice, titled “Notice of right of occupancy with file no: MISC 81346 in respect of plot no: 243 within central area district, Abuja,” was signed by the Director of Land Administration, Chijioke Nwankwoeze. The PDP secretariat land was seized for failing to pay ground rent from January 1, 2006, to January 1, 2025.

Despite multiple warnings in national newspapers and electronic media, the party failed to clear its outstanding dues.

“I have been directed to refer to the above Right of Occupancy granted to PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY (PDP), NATIONAL SECRETARIAT and inform you that the Minister of Federal Capital Territory has, in the exercise of powers conferred on him under the Land Use Act No. 6 of 1978, revoked your rights, interests, and privileges over Plot No. 243,” the letter stated.

The FCTA cited Section 28, Subsection 5 (a) and (b) of the Land Use Act, which allows the government to reclaim land from defaulters. The PDP secretariat land is now under government control until all outstanding debts are settled.

This revocation follows Wike’s earlier decision to revoke 4,794 land titles in Abuja due to unpaid ground rent, totaling ₦6.9 billion over four decades.

While some see this as a crackdown on defaulters, others speculate political motives, given Wike’s ongoing tension with PDP leadership.

The PDP has not yet responded to the revocation of the PDP secretariat land, but legal experts suggest the party may challenge the decision or seek intervention from the presidency.

With Abuja’s FCTA enforcing stricter policies, property owners and political entities must comply with land regulations to avoid future seizures.
