Nigeria’s Super Falcons secured a convincing 3-1 victory over Cameroon in their second pre-2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) friendly on Tuesday at the Military Stadium in Yaoundé. The win came as a strong response to their weekend defeat, showcasing greater cohesion and attacking intent.
Nigeria’s Strong Response
The Super Falcons had lost 1-0 in the first match of the two-match series but bounced back in the second with a commanding performance. Despite an early setback where Cameroon took the lead in the seventh minute, Nigeria fought back to claim a well-deserved win.

Key Moments of the Match
Chiwendu Ihezuo restored parity for Nigeria in the 32nd minute, heading home a delightful cross from Omorinsola Babajide. The equalizer shifted momentum in Nigeria’s favor. Just before halftime, Babajide was again involved, reacting quickest to a scramble inside the penalty area to give Nigeria the lead in the 43rd minute.
Head Coach Justin Madugu made seven changes to the starting lineup, bringing a fresh approach and better balance to the team. His tactical adjustments were clear in midfield, as Nigeria pressed higher up the pitch, disrupted Cameroon’s build-up play, and forced them into making speculative long balls.
Michelle Alozie Seals the Victory
Nigeria continued their dominance in the second half, and four minutes after the hour mark, right-back Michelle Alozie added a third goal, nodding home a cross from captain Rasheedat Ajibade. Despite creating further chances, Nigeria could not add to their lead but had already done enough to seal the win.
Super Falcons’ Preparation for WAFCON
The win in Yaoundé offers valuable lessons and confidence for the Super Falcons as they continue their preparations for the 14th edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, which will take place in Morocco from 17 March to 3 April 2026.

Both teams used the friendlies as preparation for the continental tournament, and Nigeria’s performance showcased the improvements in their tactical play and attacking strength.
Looking Ahead
With the WAFCON on the horizon, Nigeria’s response to their loss in the first match will serve as a significant morale boost. The Super Falcons will continue to build momentum in their quest to retain the continental crown.
