Rivers United strengthened their hold on the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title race with a convincing 3-1 win over Bendel Insurance at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.
Rivers United Dominate Bendel Insurance
After a goalless first half, the hosts came alive in the second half. Chijioke Mbaoma broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute, heading home a corner delivered by Iyowuna Douglas.
Douglas was again the key provider for Rivers United’s second goal, sending a perfect pass to Wisdom Samuel in the 81st minute. Samuel finished neatly to double their advantage.
Bendel Insurance pulled one back in the 89th minute, but Samson Obi struck late to seal the 3-1 victory for Rivers United.
