Pogba Plots Monaco Comeback After Doping Ban Cut to 18 Months

MONACO — June 14, 2025 | IDNN Football Desk

Paul Pogba is ready to reboot his career. The 32-year-old 2018 World Cup winner is now in advanced discussions with AS Monaco as he targets a dramatic return to professional football following a doping-related suspension.

Ban Reduced, Comeback Cleared

Pogba was provisionally suspended in August 2023 after failing a drug test following Juventus’ opening game of that season. He later received a four-year ban, but successfully appealed through the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which reduced it to 18 months.

The tribunal ruled that the banned substance DHEA — used to boost testosterone — had a non-performance-enhancing effect on males. It was accepted that Pogba ingested it inadvertently.

As a result, Pogba has been cleared to resume playing since March, following the mutual termination of his Juventus contract last November.

Monaco Move Near

His signing could bring leadership, experience, and flair — if his body holds up.

According to BBC Sport, Pogba has been training privately and is now in talks over a two-year deal with Monaco, who are eager to finalize the move before pre-season.

Sources say the Ligue 1 club has been monitoring Pogba’s fitness regime closely, with the player keen to return to his homeland and rebuild his career in familiar territory.

From Juventus Exit to Redemption Bid

The move comes nearly a year after Pogba’s last competitive appearance, and follows a turbulent chapter that saw his second Juventus spell end with injury setbacks and scandal.

Now, Pogba is focused on redemption and a quieter, more grounded phase of his career — far from the spotlight of Manchester United or the scrutiny of Turin.

What’s Next

Should Monaco seal the deal, Pogba will join a squad rebuilding after finishing fifth in Ligue 1 last season. His signing could bring leadership, experience, and flair — if his body holds up.

Fans now await confirmation of what could be one of the most compelling comeback stories in modern football.
