Osun Police Declare Two NURTW Figures Wanted Over Emir Killing
The Osun State Police Command has declared two transport-union figures wanted in connection with the killing of Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir, in Ile-Ife.
Police identified the men as Nurudeen Alowonle, a factional chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in Osun State, and Ojo Adeyemi, also known as Sibi.
The command says six suspects are already in custody as the investigation continues.
Being declared wanted, arrested or named by police does not establish guilt. The allegations have not been determined by a court.
Police Say Investigation Is Continuing
Police Commissioner Ibrahim Zungura announced the development during a briefing in Osogbo.
According to the police, preliminary investigations and statements obtained from suspects allegedly linked Alowonle and Sibi to the case.
Police have also reported allegations concerning mobilisation and the source of a firearm recovered during the investigation.
Those remain police allegations and accounts attributed to suspects. They have not been independently established as fact.
September Killing Under Investigation
Oyeyemi was killed on September 13, 2026, in Ile-Ife.
Police opened an investigation after the incident and say efforts are continuing to identify everyone who may have played a role.
Subsequent reporting has placed the incident around the Mayfair Motor Park area.
The precise motive, the role of each suspect and any command structure behind the killing remain matters for investigators and, if charges are filed, the courts.
Amotekun Gives Separate Account of Its Operatives
The case has also involved personnel linked to the Osun Amotekun Corps.
Amotekun says it voluntarily handed four of its operatives to police to assist the investigation.
That account should be distinguished from police reporting on those formally arrested in connection with the case.
Being handed over for questioning or investigation does not establish participation in the killing.
Transport-Union Links Draw Scrutiny
The case has attracted particular attention because figures linked to transport-union structures have been named in the investigation.
Reports have also referred to tensions around transport-union leadership and control of motor parks.
But IDNN is not treating transport-union rivalry as the established motive for the killing.
Any claim about who ordered, planned or carried out the attack remains subject to evidence and due process.
Right of Reply
IDNN found no attributable public response from Alowonle or Ojo Adeyemi addressing the specific police allegations at the time of filing.
Their absence of a public response should not be interpreted as an admission.
Any response from either man or an authorised representative will be incorporated when available.
The Accountability Test
The immediate question is what evidence police have beyond suspect statements and whether that evidence is sufficient to support formal charges.
Investigators will also need to establish the origin and handling of any firearm recovered, the sequence of events around the killing and the individual role of each person named in the case.
Those questions must be answered through evidence rather than association or allegation.
What IDNN Is Watching
IDNN will monitor whether the wanted men are arrested or surrender, whether any suspects are formally charged, what evidence prosecutors present and whether police clarify the alleged roles of the individuals named in the investigation.
