At the unveiling of Sule Lamido’s autobiography titled “Being True to Myself,” Nigeria’s former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, ditched the pleasantries and dropped a straight-talking rebuke aimed at a nation drifting in complaints and contradictions.

“We were once a pariah state. We fought to bring Nigeria back. Now it’s your turn. Play your role — or perish the dream.”

In a keynote that doubled as a wake-up call to every citizen, Obasanjo said the Nigerian dream is real but perishing, not because of lack of resources, but lack of will.

⚖️ “Sule Was the Right Man Then — Who’s Right Now?”

“Sule performed because he was passionate.-Obasanjo

Obasanjo praised former Foreign Minister Sule Lamido, crediting him with transforming Nigeria’s foreign relations after military rule.

“When the Commonwealth returned to Nigeria for CHOGM under Sule’s watch, we knew the tide had turned. He gave us back credibility.”

But his message wasn’t just about history — it was a dare to the present.

“Sule performed because he was passionate. He didn’t play games. That’s what Nigeria needs again — performers, not pretenders.”

🔥 “It’s Not About the Government Alone — It’s You”

Obasanjo was blunt: “Every Nigerian has a role to play. You can’t sit back and expect a miracle from Aso Rock.”

He warned that complacency is now as dangerous as corruption.

“The Nigeria of our dreams won’t fall from the sky. We must build it — or accept we killed it.”

🧠 Abdulsalami (Through Jega): “We Need More Books. More Truth.”

Represented by ex-INEC boss Prof. Attahiru Jega, former Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar praised Lamido’s book for offering deep political context.

“Sule has done what many politicians fear — he’s documented truth. We need more voices, more books, and fewer whispers.”

Jega described the autobiography as “insightful, unpretentious, and rich in post-factual analysis of Nigeria’s political crossroads.”
