Jibrin Expulsion Deepens NNPP Implosion

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has entered a fresh crisis after the Kwankwasiyya faction announced the expulsion of Abdulmumin Jibrin, lawmaker representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in Kano State.

Jibrin, a former Director-General of the Tinubu Support Groups, described his expulsion as “a rude shock” and rejected the move as unjustified.

Kwankwasiyya Rift Widens

The faction loyal to former governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso accused Jibrin of anti-party activities and non-payment of dues. His removal, however, has deepened suspicions of political vendetta inside the party.

In an official response, Jibrin maintained that dissenting views should not attract such a heavy penalty. “Even under a military dictatorship, an accused is subjected to a court-martial,” he said, lamenting that no opportunity for fair hearing was given.

Jibrin’s Next Political Home

While pledging not to challenge the expulsion in court, Jibrin hinted at a “new political journey” and called on his supporters to join him. His departure further destabilises NNPP’s Kano base, where the Kwankwasiyya movement remains influential but increasingly contested.

Analysts warn that the NNPP implosion could undermine its prospects for the 2027 elections if reconciliation fails.
