By: IDNN Security Desk

Tuesday’s early hours turned grim in Ondo town when gunmen opened fire on a team of NDLEA operatives raiding a suspected drug den. Officer Jide, standing sentry, was struck in the neck and died on arrival at the hospital.

According to insiders, the NDLEA had stormed the apartment after receiving intel that narcotics were hidden in the ceiling. But they walked into an ambush.

“It was a straight-up execution,” said one operative. “They came ready.”

“Our officers aren’t fighting against drugs ….. “They’re fighting for their lives.”

Police Act Fast — But the Message is Loud

Four suspects are now in custody. A single-barrel gun has been recovered. Police confirm joint investigations are underway, but the attack underscores growing risks to anti-drug agents operating in cartel-dominated zones.

“Our officers aren’t just fighting drugs,” one NDLEA source said. “They’re fighting for their lives.”

With drug crime intensifying across Nigeria’s south-west corridor, experts warn the Ondo killing may signal a new phase of armed resistance in the narcotics war.
