Seven killed, two injured in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway crash at Kara

Seven people were killed and two others injured in a multiple-vehicle crash at Kara, Ibafo, on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State, the Federal Road Safety Corps has said.
The crash occurred at about 12:03 a.m. on Monday, August 24, 2026, along the Ibafo-Lagos corridor.
FRSC said nine people, all male, were involved. Seven died, while two sustained injuries and were taken for medical attention.
Three vehicles were involved: a white HOWO CNG/CIMC ENRIC truck, a white MACK trailer and a Mitsubishi Canter.
The bodies of those who died were evacuated by the Ogun State Ambulance Service, while the damaged vehicles were handed over to the Motor Traffic Division of the Nigeria Police Force in Ibafo for further action.
FRSC lists speed violation as probable cause
FRSC classified the incident as a fatal multiple road traffic crash and identified speed violation as the probable cause, subject to further investigation.
That assessment remains preliminary and is not a final determination of responsibility for the crash.
Ogun FRSC Sector Commander Oludare Ogunjobi urged motorists, particularly drivers of articulated vehicles, to avoid excessive speed, maintain safe following distances and remain alert on the road.
He also urged greater caution during night travel, citing reduced visibility and fatigue as factors that can increase road risk.

The crash adds another fatal incident to one of Nigeria’s busiest road corridors.
