Kun Khalifat had announced its withdrawal from the NPFL after the league sanctioned it for failing to honour its Matchday 24 fixture against El‑Kanemi Warriors. The club described the sanctions — including forfeiting three points and three goals plus a suspended ₦10 million fine — as unfair and disproportionate. The club’s CEO, Michael Amaefula, said the punishment “did not reflect the realities facing clubs” and accused the league of bias in its disciplinary approach.
Return After Constructive Talks
However, within hours, Kun Khalifat FC reversed its decision and confirmed its return to the league following “constructive dialogue” with the NPFL Board. In a statement, Amaefula said both parties agreed to “put differences behind us” and focus on football. The club thanked the league for listening to its concerns and promised better cooperation moving forward.
Upcoming Match and Fan Appeal
Kun Khalifat confirmed it will resume its NPFL campaign immediately, with its next match scheduled against Shooting Stars of Ibadan at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri on Sunday, February 8, 2026. The club called on fans to turn out in large numbers to support the team as it seeks positive results.

The newly promoted club gained entry to the NPFL for the 2025/26 season, becoming one of the few privately owned sides in the league.
