NYSC Member Killed as Truck Hits Vehicles in Ibadan

A serving member of the National Youth Service Corps has been killed in Ibadan after an articulated truck reportedly struck several vehicles before colliding with a motorcycle around Agodi Gardens.
Several other people were reported injured in the crash, which occurred on Monday in Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The identity of the corps member had not been established in the reporting reviewed by IDNN.
PUNCH reported that the truck had allegedly been involved in earlier collisions around the Sango area before moving towards Agodi Gardens, where it struck the motorcycle conveying the corps member.
The report said the victim died at the scene.
Witnesses Describe Multiple Collisions
Eyewitnesses told PUNCH that the articulated vehicle had hit several vehicles around Sango before the fatal collision at Agodi Gardens.
One witness alleged that the driver attempted to leave the scene of the earlier collisions before the truck reached Agodi.
That account remains an eyewitness allegation and has not been independently verified by IDNN.
Another witness said the truck later collided with the motorcycle carrying the NYSC member, leaving the corps member dead and several other people injured.
The injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment, according to the report.
Cause of Crash Not Yet Established
Federal Road Safety Corps personnel were reported at the scene after the crash.
However, the material reviewed by IDNN did not contain an official FRSC finding on what caused the collision.
There was also no confirmed information in the available report on whether the truck driver had been arrested or detained.
That means allegations about the driverโs conduct, or claims that a specific mechanical or road failure caused the crash, cannot yet be treated as established fact.
The immediate questions for road-safety authorities are what caused the truck to strike multiple vehicles, whether any mechanical defect was involved and what happened to the driver after the collision.
Road-Safety Pressure in Ibadan
The crash adds to concerns over serious heavy-vehicle incidents in Ibadan.
In March, six people were reported killed in a separate crash involving a petrol-laden trailer along the Oje-Beere route.
That earlier case is relevant only as road-safety context. It does not establish the cause of Mondayโs crash.
Each heavy-vehicle incident requires its own evidence on driver conduct, vehicle condition, road conditions and enforcement.
For the family of the serving corps member and the other people injured, the immediate consequence is already clear: a journey through Ibadan ended in a fatal collision.
What remains unresolved is why the truck reportedly struck several vehicles before the death at Agodi Gardens โ and what authorities will establish about the sequence of events.
