Pep Guardiola has insisted that the Premier League title race is far from over, despite Manchester City’s 2-2 draw against lowly Nottingham Forest on Wednesday. The result handed the initiative to league leaders Arsenal, who now sit seven points clear of City at the top of the table.
Manchester City’s Struggles
City twice squandered the lead at the Etihad Stadium. Antoine Semenyo put City ahead in the first half, only for Morgan Gibbs-White to equalize for Nottingham Forest. Then, Elliot Anderson canceled out Rodri’s strike to give Forest a valuable point.
Late in the match, City came agonizingly close to taking all three points when Savinho had a shot cleared off the line by Forest defender Murillo with the last kick of the game.
Guardiola’s Reaction
Guardiola, while acknowledging the disappointment of the draw, was determined not to give up hope in the title race. “Still many games to play, them [Arsenal] one less,” Guardiola said, referring to the difference in games played between the two teams. He stressed that his side played well for the majority of the game and created numerous opportunities despite the disappointing result.
On the penalty claim late in the game, when Erling Haaland was knocked over by Forest goalkeeper Mats Sels, Guardiola took a pragmatic approach. “Always I believe we have to do it much better to make sure the officials don’t intervene,” he stated. “It’s our responsibility to be better. If we have to rely on them, it’s impossible.”
Arsenal’s Strong Position
The draw left City four points behind Arsenal, who secured a crucial 1-0 win at Brighton earlier in the day. With seven points now separating the two sides, Arsenal has the momentum in the title race, and Guardiola acknowledged the challenge ahead for his team.
“It’s not about this action or that action,” Guardiola said, “but in general, when we analyze the game, it was well played.”

Despite the setback, Guardiola remains focused on the upcoming fixtures. Manchester City will next face Newcastle in the FA Cup fifth round before taking on Real Madrid in the Champions League last 16.
