Black Maidens Fire Four Past Burkina Faso in WAFU B Opener

Ghana’s Black Maidens opened their WAFU B U-17 Girls Cup campaign with authority, sweeping Burkina Faso aside 4–0 in Yamoussoukro.

Captain Seidatu Wahab broke the deadlock from the penalty spot in first-half stoppage time before Gloria Ameaa, Benedicta Danso and Hajara Adams added three more goals after the break.

For Ghana, it was the kind of opening statement a defending champion wants.

For the rest of the competition, it was an early warning.

The Black Maidens entered the tournament carrying title expectations, and the revised format has increased the pressure attached to every result.

Following Benin’s withdrawal, the competition moved to a round-robin structure featuring Ghana, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Togo, Niger and hosts Côte d’Ivoire.

That means every point matters.

Goal difference can matter.

Momentum matters.

Ghana built all three in their opener.

Wahab breaks the resistance

Burkina Faso kept Ghana out for most of the first half, but the game finally tilted in stoppage time.

Linda Achiaa won a penalty, giving Wahab the opportunity to put Ghana ahead in the 45+3rd minute.

The captain converted.

That goal changed the contest.

With Burkina Faso chasing the game, Ghana found more space after the interval and began to punish it.

Ameaa scored the second before Danso made it 3–0, turning a tight first half into a commanding Ghanaian advantage.

Adams then completed the rout in the 84th minute.

Ghana’s 4–0 win over Burkina Faso in the WAFU B U-17 Girls Cup
Ghana’s Black Maidens opened their WAFU B title defence with a 4–0 victory over Burkina Faso.

Title defence starts with pressure

Ghana arrived in Côte d’Ivoire not simply to compete.

The Black Maidens are defending the WAFU B U-17 Girls Cup title and entered the tournament with the expectation of remaining among the strongest sides in regional women’s youth football.

The 4–0 victory gives them exactly the kind of start they wanted.

But the revised league format means there will be no easy route through the competition.

Every opponent must be faced.

Every dropped point could carry consequences.

And Ghana have already placed a four-goal marker on the board.

Nigeria now has a benchmark to answer

For IDNN, the result carries direct Nigerian relevance.

Nigeria are part of the same round-robin competition, meaning Ghana’s opening performance immediately becomes part of the pressure surrounding the Flamingos’ own campaign.

The two nations also carry recent rivalry history at this level, with Ghana beating Nigeria on penalties in the previous edition’s final.

That gives any renewed meeting extra edge.

But before that rivalry returns, the competitive picture is already shifting.

Ghana have three points.

They have four goals.

They have conceded none.

The Black Maidens have landed the first major blow.

Nigeria and the rest of WAFU B now have a benchmark to answer.
