Bukayo Saka picked up right where he left off last season, netting a smooth second-half finish as Arsenal opened their pre-season campaign with a 1-0 victory over AC Milan on Wednesday night at the National Stadium in Singapore.

Watched by over 22,800 fans, manager Mikel Arteta gave runouts to several of his core players — including Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, and Ben White — while also handing a debut to new arrival Christian Norgaard.

Though dominant in possession during the first 45 minutes, Arsenal failed to make their pressure count before the interval. That changed quickly after the break.

Saka Breakthrough After Six Changes

Arteta shuffled the deck at halftime, introducing Kepa Arrizabalaga and Martin Zubimendi, as the Gunners sought to turn control into goals.

The breakthrough arrived seven minutes later when Jakub Kiwior whipped in a low cross and Saka calmly buried it into the far corner — a finish showcasing the winger’s precision and poise. He was later named Man of the Match.

Saka’s substitution for 15-year-old academy sensation Max Dowman thrilled fans, with the teenager’s confident touches drawing praise across social media.

Milan Push Back, Arsenal Hold On

Milan mounted a late rally, but Arsenal’s new-look defence and sharp goalkeeping held firm. Substitute goalkeeper Lorenzo Torriani kept the score respectable with a stunning save off Mikel Merino’s header in the 75th minute, followed by another denial of Leandro Trossard minutes later.

Post-match, Arteta praised the squad’s work ethic:

“I’m happy with our domination and attitude. But cohesion takes time. We’re not there yet — but we’re moving in the right direction.”

Up Next: Arsenal vs Newcastle

The Gunners will continue their Asian tour this Sunday with a high-stakes pre-season clash against Newcastle United, as Arteta looks to fine-tune a squad filled with new faces, academy sparks, and Premier League ambition.
