Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has issued a stark warning to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying that any move to bring former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi back into the party would spell its destruction.

Speaking during a media chat in Abuja, Wike said the PDP had not learned from past mistakes and risked further implosion if it attempted to reintegrate Obi.

“If you want to destroy this party, dare it—bring Obi. There’s no way he will come back just because of ambition. No more ideology, no longer principle,” Wike declared.

The former Rivers Governor, Nyesome Wike, ridiculed Obi for once criticising the PDP as “rotten,” only for talks to now emerge about his possible return.

“Obi that was abusing the party, saying it is rotten—so the party is now good enough for him? Ambition can make people even go to Satan’s house,” he quipped.

Wike also dismissed Obi’s description of the August 30 Rivers local government elections as “rascality,” pointing out that Obi himself had left office as Anambra governor without conducting polls.

He defended the elections conducted under Tinubu’s emergency rule as legally valid, citing Supreme Court pronouncements and the Federal High Court’s approval.

“Under emergency rule, certain aspects of the law are suspended to allow governance. Sole administrators act on behalf of the President. Funds are made available in line with law,” he explained.

Wike further mocked Obi’s record in Anambra, accusing him of failing to manage strikes and health crises during his tenure.

The FCT Minister also targeted former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, saying his criticism of the Rivers polls stemmed from political frustration and ignorance of constitutional amendments signed by former President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2004.

Turning to 2027, Wike dismissed El-Rufai’s prediction that President Tinubu would come third in the presidential election, insisting instead that Tinubu’s re-election was secure.

“I can place a bet with confidence that President Bola Tinubu will win the 2027 presidential election,” Wike said.

The remarks deepen the fault lines within the PDP, where zoning, leadership tussles, and defections continue to destabilise the party ahead of the next general election.
