Super Eagles Beat Iran 2-1 In Antalya Friendly As Moses Simon, Akor Adams Score

Super Eagles Beat Iran in a friendly match

Super Eagles Open Break With Victory
The Super Eagles of Nigeria began their March international break with a 2-1 win over Iran in a friendly match played in Antalya, Turkey.

Nigeria started brightly and stayed in control for most of the contest. Although Iran pushed late, the Super Eagles held on to secure a deserved result. The Nigeria Football Federation also confirmed the result on Friday.

Moses Simon Gives Nigeria Early Lift
The Super Eagles wasted no time settling into the game.

In the sixth minute, Moses Simon broke forward, beat his marker, and drilled a low finish into the bottom-left corner to hand Nigeria an early lead. That goal capped a sharp opening spell from Eric Chelle’s side, who looked dangerous whenever they attacked.

Nigeria kept asking questions before the break and prevented Iran from finding any real rhythm in the opening half.

Akor Adams Doubles The Lead
Nigeria raised the tempo again after the restart.

In the 51st minute, Ademola Lookman slipped a neat pass into the path of Akor Adams, who kept his composure and finished calmly to make it 2-0.

That second goal rewarded another confident spell from the Super Eagles and gave them stronger control of the contest.

Debutants Get Their Chance
Eric Chelle also used the game to test new options in his squad.

Emmanuel Fernandez replaced Semi Ajayi at half-time to make his debut. Chibuike Nwaiwu also earned his first senior cap after coming on for Igoh Ogbu.

Later in the match, Chelle introduced Paul Onuachu, Chidera Ejuke and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru in a triple change for Samuel Chukwueze, Moses Simon and Akor Adams. Frank Onyeka also made a late appearance as Nigeria managed the closing stages.

Late Iran Goal Fails To Stop Nigeria
Iran pulled one back late in the game and briefly threatened to make the final minutes uncomfortable for Nigeria.

However, the Super Eagles stayed organised and saw out the match without allowing the game slip away.

The result gives Nigeria a useful boost as they continue to rebuild momentum under Chelle.

Attention Turns To Jordan
The friendly marked Nigeria’s first outing since finishing third at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

It also offered a morale boost after the disappointment of seeing their World Cup hopes end in a penalty defeat to DR Congo.

Friday’s match was only the third meeting between Nigeria and Iran. Nigeria had won their previous friendly encounter in 1998, while both countries played out a goalless draw at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

The Super Eagles will now shift attention to their next friendly against Jordan, which will also take place in Turkey.
