Head coach Eric Chelle has officially named his 23-man final list for the 8th African Nations Championship (CHAN), with team captain Junior Harrison Nduka, experienced striker Godwin Obaje, and explosive forward Sikiru Alimi among the headline picks.

The Super Eagles B side is now set to fly out on Thursday night aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight to Zanzibar, where they will camp ahead of the tournament’s kickoff on August 2nd across Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

The team has been training intensively for several weeks at the Remo Stars Sports Institute in Ogun State, and will now enter a second phase of preparation between July 25–31 in Zanzibar.

Double Friendlies vs Zanzibar to Test Readiness

As part of build-up activities, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has lined up two friendlies against the Zanzibar national team, scheduled for Monday, July 28 and Thursday, July 31.

These games are expected to give Chelle a final look at tactical options and player chemistry before the team moves into official CHAN tournament accommodation.

Group of Fire: Nigeria vs Senegal, Sudan & Congo

Nigeria will compete in Group D, a high-stakes pool featuring title holders Senegal, former champions Sudan, and dark horses Congo.

The first two group matches will take place at Amman Stadium, Zanzibar, before the team travels to Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam for their final group clash against Congo.

Nigeria last finished second in 2018, and third in 2014. The 2024 edition is viewed as a crucial test for the rebuilding program under Chelle and the local-based stars eyeing international breakthrough.
