Plateau Attack: NSCDC Officer Killed, Businessman Abducted in Mangu

Plateau NSCDC has confirmed the killing of an officer and the abduction of a businessman in Pushit community, Mangu LGA.

The Plateau State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has confirmed the killing of one of its officers after an attack in Pushit community, Mangu Local Government Area, in which a local businessman was abducted.

The attack occurred at about 9:30 p.m. on Monday, October 19.

The deceased officer was described in multiple reports as a Deputy Superintendent of the NSCDC. IDNN is withholding a published name pending locked identity verification.

Plateau NSCDC spokesperson ASP AR Rimvyok confirmed that the incident occurred.

As of the latest verified information available to IDNN, there is no authoritative confirmation that the abducted businessman has been released, rescued or harmed.

Witness account describes fatal encounter

Community member Lawrence Tabitha told journalists that the NSCDC officer was riding a motorcycle near his residence when he encountered the attackers.

According to Tabitha, the gunmen had already abducted a businessman involved in fuel, cement and fertiliser trading and were leaving the area with him.

He said the officer’s motorcycle headlight exposed the movement of the attackers before they opened fire.

That sequence remains an attributed witness account and has not been independently established by police or another security agency.

What is established is that an NSCDC officer was killed and a businessman abducted in Pushit.

Fresh security questions in Mangu

The incident occurred amid continuing insecurity in parts of Mangu.

Reports say a dusk-to-dawn curfew had been imposed in parts of the area following repeated attacks.

The Pushit attack therefore raises questions about community protection, patrol coverage and how security restrictions are being enforced.

But the incident alone does not establish that the curfew failed operationally.

Authorities would need to clarify where the restriction applied, what deployment was in place at the time and how the attackers moved through the area.

Residents have also raised concern about repeated violence affecting communities around Pushit District.

The immediate priority is the abducted businessman

The most urgent unresolved issue is the condition and location of the abducted businessman.

Community representatives have called on security agencies and the Plateau State Government to intensify efforts to secure his release and strengthen protection around Pushit and neighbouring communities.

The accountability questions now include the response timeline, the scope of security restrictions in force that night and what additional protection is being deployed around vulnerable communities.

For now, the verified position remains narrow:

An NSCDC officer was killed, a businessman was abducted in Pushit community, and the Plateau NSCDC has confirmed the incident.

The next material development is whether security agencies provide a fuller account of the attack and whether the abducted businessman is safely recovered.
