Parents seek waste clearance outside Lagos school — report

Parents and residents have appealed for the removal of accumulated refuse outside Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola Primary School on Shasha Road, Alimosho, Lagos, according to PUNCH.

The newspaper’s November 4 report described an offensive smell affecting the learning environment. Its correspondent reported observing pupils covering their noses while passing the refuse during a Friday visit.

The report described waste accumulating for weeks, while interviewees said the problem had persisted for months. Their complaints centred on discomfort and concern for children’s wellbeing.

Resident Kolapo Adekunle alleged that approaches to waste operators and the Lagos Waste Management Authority had not secured evacuation.

PUNCH said attempts to obtain LAWMA’s response were unsuccessful before publication. IDNN has not independently contacted the agency.

Separate LAWMA update does not address school complaint

In a November 3 statement, LAWMA said an upgrade to the E1 tipping platform at Olusosun had reduced waste-truck queues and improved its capacity to tackle refuse backlogs.

The agency urged residents to use their assigned waste operators and avoid unauthorised dumping. Its statement did not specifically address the school complaint.

Whether the refuse outside the school has been removed remains unconfirmed by IDNN.
