Ogun police arrest one over alleged gang rape, seek second suspect

The Ogun State Police Command says it has arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with the alleged gang rape of a 19-year-old woman in Ijebu-Igbo.

Police identified the arrested suspect as Ayomide Kamula.

The command says another man, identified as Boye Balogun, is being sought in connection with the same allegation.

The case remains under investigation.

Neither an arrest nor a police allegation establishes guilt.

Police say alleged incident occurred on August 30

Police say the alleged incident occurred on August 30 in Ijebu-Igbo.

The command says the case was formally reported at the Ijebu-Igbo Division on September 1.

Officers subsequently visited and secured the scene as part of the investigation.

IDNN is withholding the survivor’s name, precise residence and other identifying details.

Survivor taken for medical examination and care

Police say investigating officers issued a medical examination form and accompanied the survivor to a general hospital for examination and care.

That is part of the investigative and survivor-support process.

It does not establish that the allegation has been proved.

No medical findings have been made public in the material reviewed by IDNN.

One suspect arrested, another sought

Police say Kamula was arrested during the investigation and remains in custody.

The command says efforts are continuing to locate Balogun, whom police describe as a second suspect.

Being arrested or named as a suspect does not establish criminal responsibility.

Case transferred for further investigation

The Ogun Police Command says the matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department at Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and possible prosecution.

That does not mean charges have already been filed.

The next material developments will include whether the second suspect is located, what evidence investigators establish and whether prosecutors eventually bring charges.

For now, the verified publication position remains limited:

Ogun Police say one 20-year-old suspect has been arrested and another man is being sought over an alleged gang rape involving a 19-year-old woman in Ijebu-Igbo.

The allegation has not been adjudicated and no finding of guilt has been made.
