NURTW Member Shot Dead at Lagos Bus Stop as Police Open Investigation

A member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers has been shot dead at Abijo Bus Stop in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos, with police confirming that an investigation is underway.

The victim, identified in the report as Kamoru Omokoye, was attacked on Sunday and was pronounced dead at the Federal Medical Centre, Epe, according to the unnamed police source quoted by PUNCH Metro.

Lagos State Police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi confirmed the incident and said investigators had begun work on the case.

Source says two attackers fled scene

An unnamed police source quoted by PUNCH Metro said two men arrived at the bus stop in an unregistered Lexus RX 350 at about 9 a.m., shot Omokoye and fled.

According to the same source, detectives later visited the scene and searched the surrounding area.

The source described the attackers as suspected cultists.

That description has not been established as an official finding by the Lagos State Police Command. Police have not publicly identified the attackers, confirmed a cult motive or announced an arrest in connection with the killing.

An anti-cultism advocacy platform also alleged that other people were injured during the incident.

Those additional injury claims have not been independently confirmed by police in the material reviewed by IDNN.

Investigation now carries the unanswered questions

The confirmed facts remain limited: a transport union member was shot dead at Abijo Bus Stop and police are investigating.

The identity of those responsible remains unknown publicly.

No motive has been officially established.

No evidence released so far establishes that the killing was connected to a cult group.

The next accountability test is therefore the investigation itself: whether police identify the assailants, establish a motive, make arrests and determine whether the attack created any continuing public-safety risk.

Until those findings emerge, claims about the attackers or their affiliations must remain attributed and unproven.
