NiMet weather forecast: Thunderstorms, moderate rain expected across northern states

NiMet forecasts thunderstorms, moderate rainfall across parts of northern Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has forecast isolated thunderstorms and moderate rainfall across parts of northern Nigeria on Monday, October 5.

NiMet’s weather outlook, issued on October 4 and valid from October 5 to October 7, says thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are expected over parts of Katsina, Jigawa, Kaduna, Gombe, Zamfara, Kebbi, Bauchi, Kano, Borno, Adamawa and Taraba during the afternoon and evening.

The agency also forecasts slight dust haze over northern parts of Borno and Yobe, while other parts of the northern region are expected to experience partly cloudy conditions earlier in the day.

Forecast, not an incident

The outlook is a weather forecast.

It does not establish that flooding, storm damage, casualties or transport disruption have occurred in any of the listed states.

Any such impact would require separate verification before being reported as an incident.

For residents and motorists, the bulletin is primarily a planning and precautionary alert for changing weather conditions during the forecast period.

NiMet urges weather awareness

NiMet advises the public and weather-sensitive sectors to monitor its forecasts and updates as conditions develop.

Road users should take account of reduced visibility and wet-road conditions where rainfall occurs, while aviation operators are expected to rely on airport-specific weather information for operational planning.

The agency’s current outlook remains valid through October 7.

Conditions may change

Weather conditions can change during a multi-day forecast period, making subsequent NiMet updates important for residents, transport operators and other affected sectors.

The current bulletin should therefore be read as a forecast of possible weather conditions, not as confirmation of an emergency.

For now, the verified position is that NiMet expects thunderstorms and moderate rainfall across parts of northern Nigeria within the current forecast window.

Any report of flooding, damage, casualties or major disruption would need to be verified separately.
