Body of Missing Party Guest Found in Lagos as SCID Investigates Death
Lagos State Police say the body of a man identified as Tosin, who had been reported missing after travelling from Ondo State to attend an event in Ijede, Ikorodu, has been recovered as detectives investigate the circumstances of his death.
The case began as a missing-person report on September 15.
Police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi said the matter was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for investigation.
A body later identified as Tosin’s was found floating in water on September 18.
The police have not publicly established, in the confirmed account reviewed by IDNN, the medical cause or manner of death, the motive or the identity of those responsible.
What police have confirmed
The confirmed police account establishes three points.
Tosin was reported missing after attending an event in the Ijede area.
His body was subsequently recovered and identified.
And the State Criminal Investigation Department is investigating the case.
Those facts establish a death investigation involving suspicious circumstances.
They do not yet establish how he died or whether investigators have formally classified the death as homicide.
Robbery and cult claims remain allegations
Separate reporting citing unnamed police sources alleges that Tosin was attacked after leaving the event, robbed of valuables, killed and his body dumped in water.
The same reporting refers to suspected cultists.
Those claims are significant, but they were not included in the named police spokesperson’s confirmed account reviewed for this story.
IDNN is therefore not treating robbery, cult involvement, killing or deliberate disposal of the body as settled fact.
They remain investigative claims requiring corroboration.
Reports of arrests need clarification
Current reporting also says police sources claimed that raids carried out after the body was recovered led to some people being arrested or detained for questioning.
The Lagos State Police spokesperson confirmed that the case is under investigation but did not, in the material reviewed by IDNN, publicly establish how many people were arrested, what offences they were suspected of committing or whether any charges had been filed.
Anyone arrested or questioned remains a suspect unless and until guilt is established by a court.
Being questioned by police does not establish responsibility for Tosin’s death.
What investigators still need to establish
Several questions remain open.
What does the autopsy or forensic examination show about the cause and manner of death?
Was Tosin attacked after leaving the event?
Were any valuables taken?
Was his body deliberately placed in the water?
Is there evidence linking any detained person to the death?
And is there verified evidence of cult involvement?
Those questions matter because early source accounts can move faster than the evidence eventually established by forensic examination and formal police investigation.
Family needs answers, but evidence must come first
For Tosin’s family, the central issue is straightforward: a man travelled to Lagos for an event, was reported missing and was later found dead.
The responsibility of investigators is to establish what happened between those points.
That requires medical evidence, witness accounts, surveillance or digital evidence where available, and a clear explanation of any arrests or charges.
Until those findings are made public, IDNN will keep the distinctions clear.
