Lagos police arrest suspect over Abule-Egba club robbery
Police in Lagos State have arrested a 29-year-old man over the robbery of a clubgoer outside Ghost and Spirit Lounge on Ekoro Road, Abule-Egba.
The incident occurred at about 5 a.m. on September 26, according to the Lagos State Police Command.
Commissioner of Police Fatai Tijani said armed men arrived in a grey Mercedes-Benz GLK SUV and robbed the victim of a gold wrist chain and rings.
CCTV captures robbery
CCTV footage circulating online captured the robbery sequence outside the lounge.
The images show an apparent attack after a vehicle stopped near people gathered around parked cars.
The footage does not by itself establish the identity or criminal role of any person later arrested.
Police arrest suspect at Lagos-Ogun boundary
Tijani said investigators arrested Ezekiel Sunday Obi, 29, at about 1 a.m. on September 27 at the Toll Gate area on the Lagos-Ogun boundary.
Police said he was arrested in connection with the robbery.
The sources reviewed by IDNN do not establish that Obi has been formally charged, arraigned or convicted.
He remains a suspect under investigation.
Search for others continues
Police said efforts were continuing to arrest other people allegedly involved and recover exhibits linked to the robbery.
That does not establish that every person visible in the CCTV footage participated in the offence.
The investigation remains active.
Evidence becomes the next test
The next questions are whether the stolen items will be recovered, whether additional suspects will be arrested and what evidence police will place before prosecutors if charges are filed.
The incident also raises a wider public-safety question around security near late-night entertainment venues and how quickly operators and police respond to violent crime around crowded public spaces.
That does not establish that the lounge itself breached any specific security or legal duty.
For now, police say a robbery occurred, one suspect has been arrested and investigators are pursuing others.
