Lagos arraigns over 100 after VI, Lekki-Ajah enforcement operation

More than 100 defendants have been arraigned before the Lagos State Special Offences Mobile Court sitting at Bolade, Oshodi, following an overnight enforcement operation across Victoria Island, Lekki and Ajah.

The arrests were reported to have taken place between 2am and 4am on September 4, 2026.

The defendants faced allegations including breach of public peace, conduct likely to cause a breakdown of law and order, and unlawful conversion of government property for personal use.

Those allegations do not carry the same legal status for every defendant because the court recorded different pleas and outcomes.

Some defendants pleaded guilty

Some defendants entered guilty pleas.

Chief Magistrate F.J. Adefioye sentenced defendants who pleaded guilty to Counts I and II to one month and two months of community service or imprisonment, respectively.

The sentences were ordered to run consecutively.

That wording matters.

The available account does not support describing every guilty-plea defendant simply as having received three months in prison.

Nor should those sentences be attributed to defendants who contested the allegations.

Others pleaded not guilty

Other defendants pleaded not guilty.

They were reported as remanded and granted bail with two sureties each.

Their cases remain unresolved.

A not-guilty plea means the prosecution still has to establish the allegations before the court.

Remand is not conviction, and bail is not acquittal.

What prosecutors alleged

The prosecution, led by Oluwabusola Omotunde on behalf of the Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, linked the cases to the early-morning enforcement operation along the Victoria Island-Lekki-Ajah corridor.

The state alleged breaches of public peace and unlawful conversion of government property among the conduct under prosecution.

Those descriptions remain allegations in cases where guilt has not been established.

Different defendants, different legal outcomes

The available public account does not provide a full defendant-by-defendant record.

It does not state how many defendants pleaded guilty, how many pleaded not guilty, which individual defendants faced each count, or the full bail terms beyond the reported requirement for two sureties.

That distinction is important in a mass arraignment.

A single court sitting can contain defendants with different pleas, charges and outcomes.

The verified position is therefore limited:

More than 100 defendants were arraigned.

Some pleaded guilty and were sentenced.

Others pleaded not guilty, were remanded and granted bail.

Any allegations against defendants contesting the charges remain for the court to determine.
