Kwara Police Arrest Suspect, Recover Two AK-47 Rifles and 42 Rounds in Ilorin

Kwara State Police say they arrested a 30-year-old suspect during a stop-and-search operation along the Alapa–Okolowo axis of Ilorin and recovered two AK-47 rifles, three magazines and 42 rounds of live ammunition.

Police identified the arrested man as Umaru M., 30, and described him as a suspected participant in an alleged gun-running network.

That description remains a police allegation. The arrest does not establish guilt.

According to police, officers intercepted a commercial vehicle during a stop-and-search operation and found the firearms and ammunition inside a bag.

Police reported recovering two serviceable AK-47 rifles, three magazines and 42 rounds of live ammunition.

Authorities also said the suspect initially denied ownership of the bag but later allegedly admitted transporting the weapons.

Any such alleged admission remains part of the police investigation and is not a judicial finding.

Police further alleged that information obtained during the investigation linked the weapons to a person identified as Dan Yarubawa, who was said to have handed them over for delivery to another person identified as Dahiru outside Kwara State.

Those alleged roles have not been established in court. IDNN is therefore treating the names and claimed connections strictly as police allegations.

The case raises wider public-safety questions about where the weapons originated, their intended destination and whether investigators can establish a broader trafficking network.

The active story file does not yet establish whether Umaru M. has been formally charged or arraigned.

Ballistic or forensic examination of the recovered firearms could also provide evidence about their history and possible links to previous incidents.

The recovery starts the investigation; it does not prove the network police suspect.

IDNN will update this report if police announce formal charges, further arrests, forensic findings or verified information on the source and intended destination of the weapons.
