Kwara Police Hunt Truck Driver, Motor Boy After Student’s Death
Kwara State Police are searching for a truck driver and his motor boy as investigators try to establish the circumstances surrounding the death of a Kwara State Polytechnic student following a reported road incident.
Published reports differ on the spelling of the student’s first name, giving Sheu and Shehu. Until that discrepancy is resolved through a primary source, IDNN is referring to him principally as the Kwara State Polytechnic student.
His family’s search later led to the discovery that his body had initially been treated as unidentified, buried and subsequently exhumed for identification.
Police say driver and motor boy are wanted
Kwara State Commissioner of Police Ojo Adekimi said officers were trying to locate and arrest the truck driver and motor boy.
The available police account does not establish that either man caused the student’s death or committed an offence.
Being sought by police does not amount to guilt.
Family search led to identification
The student reportedly went missing after borrowing a motorcycle from his brother.
His family later learned that an unidentified body had been recovered around Oko-Olowo and buried.
Police subsequently sent an image to relatives for identification, after which the body was exhumed and identified by the family.
The reporting reviewed by IDNN does not establish a final medical cause of death.
Tricycle operator arrested
Police confirmed the arrest of a tricycle operator identified as Basit.
The family alleges that he transported the student to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, where the student was reportedly confirmed dead.
Police said Basit admitted handing the body over to the truck driver.
That account remains part of an active investigation and does not, by itself, establish criminal responsibility.
Motorcycle later found
The motorcycle borrowed by the student was later found at Kulende Police Station during the family’s search, according to published accounts.
The available reporting does not yet explain how the motorcycle came into police custody or what role it plays in the investigation.
What remains unresolved
Investigators have not publicly established the precise sequence of events leading to the student’s death.
The available reporting does not establish whether dangerous driving, negligence, deliberate concealment or any other offence occurred.
It also remains unclear why the body moved between private individuals after the student was reportedly taken to hospital and how it later came to be treated as unidentified.
Those questions require evidence, not inference.
Corporate liability not established
Some reports describe the vehicle involved as a Conoil truck.
That description does not establish that Conoil itself caused, directed or bears legal responsibility for the incident.
Any corporate-liability claim would require separate evidence.
The accountability question
The immediate test is whether police can locate the truck driver and motor boy and reconstruct the chain of events from the reported road incident to the handling of the student’s body.
Authorities also need to clarify the body’s chain of custody, how the motorcycle came into police possession, and whether any person acted unlawfully.
For now, the strongest supported position is that the student is dead, a tricycle operator has been arrested, and police are searching for the truck driver and motor boy.
The cause of death and legal responsibility remain under investigation.
