INEC sets October 9 for nationwide PVC collection

INEC says nationwide PVC collection begins October 9

The Independent National Electoral Commission says nationwide collection of newly produced Permanent Voter Cards will begin on Friday, October 9, 2026, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan announced the commencement date in Abuja.

The commission says the newly produced cards will be distributed to Local Government Area collection centres for eligible voters.

Collection is for eligible voters with newly produced cards

The October 9 exercise does not mean every person on Nigeria’s voter register has a new PVC waiting for collection.

The rollout concerns eligible voters whose recent registration or voter-record transactions resulted in newly produced cards.

That includes relevant cases arising from Continuous Voter Registration, transfers or replacement requests.

Registered voters should therefore confirm the status of their own PVC rather than assume a new card is available.

Voters can check PVC status and collection centre

INEC’s voter portal allows registered voters to check their PVC status and identify their collection centre.

The service is particularly important for voters who recently registered or made changes to their voter record.

Voters should rely on INEC’s official collection information rather than unofficial dates or locations circulating online.

Nigeria’s voter register now exceeds 103 million

INEC says Nigeria’s National Register of Voters now contains more than 103 million registered voters following the latest Continuous Voter Registration exercise.

That figure measures the size of the register.

It does not mean more than 103 million new PVCs are available for collection from October 9.

The number of newly produced cards and the number successfully collected are separate measures.

Published reporting also gives differing detailed figures for the recent CVR intake, so IDNN is not using an unreconciled phase-by-phase total as a settled figure.

October 9 date retained after conflicting report

One October 5 report described PVC distribution as beginning on Thursday, October 8.

However, repeated INEC-attributed reporting supports Friday, October 9.

IDNN is therefore using October 9 as the verified commencement date.

The conflicting October 8 formulation should not be reintroduced unless INEC issues a fresh correction.

Access and delivery are the next test

The public-service test now moves from announcement to delivery.

The key questions are whether newly produced cards reach LGA centres on schedule, whether voters can locate the correct centre, whether collection proceeds evenly across states and how quickly INEC resolves cases where cards are unavailable or voter records are inaccurate.

For now, what is established is that INEC says nationwide collection of newly produced PVCs begins Friday, October 9, through LGA collection centres for eligible voters.

What remains to be measured is how many cards are available, how many are actually collected and whether voters encounter access or distribution problems.
