One Dead, Others Injured as Commercial Bus Crashes, Catches Fire in Ilorin
One passenger has died and others were injured after a commercial bus carrying 21 passengers crashed, somersaulted and caught fire near Iye-Maja Junction on the Oko-Olowo Expressway in Ilorin, according to the Kwara State Fire Service.
The crash happened on Sunday, October 4, with firefighters reported at the scene at about 6:35 p.m.
According to the Fire Service, the bus reportedly suffered a tyre puncture while in motion before the driver lost control. The vehicle then somersaulted and caught fire.
That sequence remains a preliminary account from the emergency service, not a final crash-investigation finding.
The Fire Service confirmed one death and said other passengers sustained injuries and were taken for treatment.
Although some reports have stated that 20 people were injured, that exact figure has not been independently confirmed in the active story file by the Fire Service, FRSC, police or a hospital.
The immediate public-safety concern is the condition of the injured passengers and whether road-safety investigators will establish the precise cause of the crash.
Kwara State fire authorities also urged motorists and commercial transport operators to carry out regular checks on tyres, brakes and electrical systems.
That safety advice does not establish that poor maintenance caused this crash.
The next accountability questions are whether the vehicle was roadworthy, whether investigators confirm the reported tyre failure, and whether any further safety or enforcement action follows.
IDNN will update this report if authorities provide a verified injury total, release hospital-condition information or issue a formal crash-investigation finding.
