Ekiti police probe alleged killing of 25-year-old woman as husband remains sought
The Ekiti State Police Command is investigating the death of 25-year-old Kehinde Onizeokaraga after Sodiq Ibrahim, identified in reporting as her husband, was accused of attacking her during a marital dispute in Ado-Ekiti.
Police say Commissioner Michael Falade has ordered a thorough investigation and directed efforts to apprehend the person responsible.
Ibrahim was still reported at large in the latest accounts reviewed.
His identification as a suspect does not establish guilt.
Attack allegedly occurred during mediation
The incident reportedly happened on Wednesday, September 9, during an attempt by other people to mediate in a dispute between the couple.
Family and other sources alleged that the disagreement escalated and Ibrahim attacked Onizeokaraga with a machete, causing injuries from which she died.
Those details remain allegations based on family and witness accounts within an active police investigation.
Police have confirmed the investigation but have not publicly established the full sequence of events through a completed investigative or court record.
Police seek suspect
Ekiti State Police spokesperson Sunday Abutu said the Commissioner of Police had ordered a thorough investigation aimed at apprehending the person responsible and bringing the case before the law.
The current public record does not show that Ibrahim has been arrested, charged or brought before a court.
There is also no verified public record establishing motive or confirming whether a weapon has been recovered.
Family raises further claims
A cousin of the deceased, Yussuf Lawrence, alleged that other people had been taken into police custody in connection with the incident.
He also alleged that Ibrahim left with Onizeokaraga’s mobile phone, which the family believes could contain information relevant to the investigation.
Those claims have not been independently confirmed by police and remain attributed to the family.
What remains to be established
The immediate legal question is whether police locate and arrest Ibrahim and what evidence investigators establish about the circumstances of Onizeokaraga’s death.
