Zero Tolerance Message from the New Command

Acting Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu has pledged a zero tolerance stance against misconduct and indiscipline within the Nigeria Police Force, setting the tone for his tenure hours after being decorated in Abuja.

In remarks delivered to senior officers, Disu emphasised that professionalism, accountability and operational efficiency would define his leadership approach.

He warned that impunity within ranks would not be tolerated and that internal discipline would receive immediate attention.

Reform Beyond Rhetoric

The Disu Zero Tolerance Reform Agenda focuses on three key areas: internal accountability, deployment optimisation and strengthened intelligence coordination.

According to the Acting IGP, command structures will be reviewed to ensure responsiveness in high-risk regions, particularly in rural corridors facing insurgency and organised crime.

He also indicated that performance monitoring mechanisms would be reinforced to align field operations with national security priorities.

Public Trust at the Centre

Disu acknowledged growing public concerns about law enforcement credibility, noting that trust must be earned through consistent action rather than pronouncements.

He stated that community engagement frameworks would be revitalised to bridge gaps between citizens and officers, especially in conflict-prone zones.

The emphasis, he suggested, would be on measurable outcomes rather than ceremonial resets.

Pending Ratification, Immediate Mandate

Although serving in an acting capacity pending Police Council ratification, Disu signalled that operational momentum would not be delayed.

He directed commanders to review ongoing operations and submit performance reports aimed at tightening response timelines.

The message was clear: reform would begin immediately, regardless of administrative formalities.

Reform or Recalibration?

Leadership transitions in Nigeria’s security architecture often carry expectations of systemic change.

Whether the Disu Zero Tolerance Reform Agenda translates into sustained institutional reform will depend on enforcement consistency, command cohesion and measurable security improvements.

For now, the tone has shifted toward discipline and accountability.
The next test lies in execution.
