Isak fires Liverpool past Bournemouth as Iraola wins on return
Alexander Isak delivered the decisive moment as Liverpool ground out a 1-0 victory over Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.
The Swedish striker struck in the 57th minute, finishing from inside the area after Cody Gakpo’s work down the right opened the move.
It was enough to settle a tight contest — and enough to give Andoni Iraola a winning return to his former club.
Isak breaks the deadlock
The first half produced little separation between the sides, with neither team able to create sustained pressure in the final third.
Liverpool needed a cleaner attacking moment.
They found it just before the hour.
Gakpo’s work down the right opened the move before Isak finished clinically from inside the area to put Liverpool ahead.
One opening.
One finish.
One goal.
Liverpool protect the lead
Bournemouth continued to make the game uncomfortable after falling behind, but Liverpool held their shape and protected the advantage.
Alisson Becker finished with a clean sheet, while Virgil van Dijk later described the result as an important win at a difficult ground and urged the team not to get carried away by the early-season start.
That restraint matters.
Liverpool did not dominate the scoreline.
They managed the moment that mattered most.
Iraola leaves his old ground with the points
There was another layer to the result.
Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola was returning to the Vitality Stadium, where he had previously managed Bournemouth.
He said afterwards that winning there is difficult and described Liverpool’s victory as deserved, while also acknowledging that his side did not begin the game with enough intensity.
The result therefore carried both competitive and personal weight.
Iraola came back to familiar territory.
Isak made sure he left with the points.
Isak keeps his scoring run moving
The Bournemouth winner added another league goal to Isak’s early Liverpool campaign.
He had already scored against Nottingham Forest and twice against Ipswich earlier in the season.
The significance is straightforward.
Liverpool did not need volume.
They needed one decisive action.
Isak supplied it.
Bournemouth 0.
Liverpool 1.
And on a difficult afternoon on the south coast, that was enough.
