Bayero Shelves Kano Horse-Riding Procession After Police Intervention

Aminu Ado Bayero has shelved a planned horse-riding procession to Yakasai in Kano after police intervention over concerns about public safety and possible tension.

Bayero had notified security authorities of his intention to travel in a horse-riding procession on Thursday to attend a Qur’anic graduation ceremony in Yakasai.

Police subsequently appealed to him to suspend the procession and travel to the event by vehicle instead.

Subsequent reports said Bayero shelved the planned ride following the intervention.

Police cite public-safety concerns

Kano Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori said the appeal was made in the interest of peace and public safety.

Police also said anyone planning a public Durbar or horse-riding activity is expected to provide at least 72 hours’ written notice.

In this case, however, authorities went beyond the notification requirement and appealed for the planned procession itself to be cancelled.

The intervention comes amid continuing sensitivity surrounding the Kano emirate dispute, with security agencies warning against actions capable of disturbing public peace.

Preventive action, not a clash

There is no verified evidence that the planned Yakasai procession resulted in violence or disorder.

The development is therefore a preventive public-safety intervention rather than a report of an actual clash.

Police intervened before the planned procession took place, and Bayero’s decision to shelve the ride removed the immediate concern surrounding the gathering.

That distinction matters.

A warning about possible disorder is not evidence that disorder occurred.

What happens next

The immediate question is whether Bayero will still attend the Yakasai event by another means and how authorities will handle future public horse-riding activities in the state.

For security agencies, consistency will be important.

Restrictions imposed on public-safety grounds should be communicated clearly and applied without creating further uncertainty over which public horse-riding activities are permitted.

For residents, the immediate consequence is simpler: a procession identified by police as a potential public-safety concern will not proceed as originally planned.

The verified position remains clear:

Bayero planned the horse ride. Police appealed for it to be shelved. He shelved it. No clash linked to the planned procession has been established.
