Bauchi Police Rescue Teenager, Arrest Suspect in Kidnap Investigation
Police in Bauchi State say they rescued a 16-year-old boy after his father reported him abducted and arrested a 60-year-old man in connection with the case.
The Bauchi State Police Command said officers at the Yana Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress report at about 10 p.m. on September 28 from the teenager’s father, who said his son had been taken from Misau to Bangala Village.
Detectives were deployed after the report and rescued the teenager unhurt, according to police.
The suspect was arrested during the operation.
Teenager Taken for Medical Examination
Police said the boy was taken to General Hospital, Yana, for medical examination after his rescue.
IDNN is withholding his identity because he is a minor.
The police account says the suspect allegedly intended to move the teenager to Kano, but the reason has not been established.
That allegation remains part of the police investigation and is not a finding of guilt.
Suspect Remains Under Investigation
Police also said preliminary investigation indicated that the suspect had unlawfully confined the teenager for about a day.
The command said the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation and possible prosecution.
At this stage, the arrested man remains a suspect.
