Bauchi police arrest two men after reported Birshi Gandu robbery

Bauchi State Police Command says it has arrested two men following a reported robbery at a residential compound in Birshi Gandu, Bauchi metropolis.

Police identified the arrested men as Abdulshakur Adamu, 20, also known as Dan Oga, and Rabiu Usman, 21.

The command said the case began after four residents reported that three men entered their compound, which also houses Cozy Resort Hotel, while they were asleep on October 17 and allegedly took mobile phones and other valuables.

Phone tracing leads to arrests

According to the police account, residents later helped trace one of the missing phones, leading to the arrest of the two men.

Police spokesperson SP Nafiu Habib said officers recovered three smartphones, two power banks, a headphone, a USB cable and a knife during the investigation.

The command said the complainants identified the recovered electronic items as property taken from them.

That recovery does not, by itself, establish that either arrested man committed the reported robbery.

Police report alleged confession

Police also said the suspects made statements linking themselves to the incident.

Any reported confession remains an allegation in the police record unless tested through the legal process.

A third person, identified by police only as Kabiru, also known as KB, was described by the command as an alleged accomplice who had not been arrested at the time of the report.

His alleged involvement has not been established in court.

Case transferred to SCID

Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu ordered the case transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

Police said investigators would continue efforts to recover other allegedly stolen property and locate the third suspect.

For residents, the case highlights the impact of overnight property crime and the role of phone tracing in supporting police investigations.

The next accountability questions are whether the SCID investigation produces formal charges, whether additional property is recovered and whether the accused men or their legal representatives provide a response to the allegations.

As of the latest material reviewed by IDNN, no verified court record establishing that Adamu or Usman had been arraigned, convicted or found guilty was identified.
