Bauchi Police Arrest 20-Year-Old Over Alleged Fatal Stabbing After Dispute
BAUCHI — Police in Bauchi State have arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with the alleged fatal stabbing of another man following what the command described as a misunderstanding.
The Bauchi State Police Command identified the suspect as Isa Mohammed, a resident of Abujan Kwata, and the deceased as Salim Mohammed.
Police said the alleged stabbing occurred on October 18, 2026, and that officers attached to ‘A’ Division Township traced and arrested the suspect at about 1:20 p.m. on October 19.
Police allege stabbing followed disagreement
In a statement issued by command spokesperson Nafiu Habib, police alleged that Isa Mohammed stabbed Salim Mohammed during a disagreement.
That account remains a police allegation under investigation.
IDNN has not independently established the precise sequence of events, the motive for the confrontation or the evidence investigators say links the suspect to the fatal injury.
The suspect has been arrested, but current reporting reviewed by IDNN does not establish that he has been formally charged before a court.
Police say case will move to State CID
The Bauchi State Police Command said the matter will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
That wording is important.
The public record reviewed by IDNN does not independently establish that the transfer has already been completed, that prosecutors have received the file or that any charge has been filed.
An arrest does not establish guilt.
Any allegation against the suspect would have to be tested through the legal process if charges are eventually brought.
What remains unanswered
The police account leaves several issues unresolved.
The command has not, in the reporting reviewed by IDNN, disclosed a verified motive beyond describing the incident as arising from a “misunderstanding.”
It is also not yet established what offence may eventually be charged or when the suspect may appear before a court.
Those details could materially change the legal status of the case.
For now, the verified position is that a 20-year-old man has been arrested in connection with Salim Mohammed’s death and that police say further investigation is planned.
