Abuja-Kano road: ₦761bn project promises 100-year durability.

The Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano road reconstruction will cost ₦761bn, Works Minister David Umahi announced during an inspection tour. The three-section project will take 14 months, with President Tinubu prioritising completion.

Umahi explained that reinforced concrete will replace asphalt for durability. Thirty percent of the funds have already been released to contractors.

Nigeria’s Costly Road Projects

The Abuja-Kano expressway is a major artery linking the FCT to the North-West. The project has dragged for years, with initial works stretching back over a decade.

The staggering ₦761bn price tag raises questions about cost efficiency, but Umahi insists the project will last over 100 years. Success would mark one of Tinubu’s flagship infrastructure legacies.
