Police Rescue Three Victims After Separate Katsina Bandit Attacks

Police Say Three Kidnap Victims Rescued After Separate Katsina Bandit Attacks

Police in Katsina State say three kidnapped residents were rescued and 12 rustled cows recovered after one of two separate bandit attacks reported in Kankia and Musawa local government areas.

The incidents occurred between the night of October 6 and the early hours of October 7 and were separate events.

In Kankia, police said suspected bandits attacked Fakuwa village at about 9:30pm, abducting three residents and taking about 12 cows.

Police said all three victims were later rescued unharmed and the cattle recovered.

Three victims rescued after Kankia attack

According to the police account, the three residents were recovered after the Fakuwa village attack.

The 12 cows allegedly taken during the incident were also recovered.

IDNN has not independently verified every operational detail surrounding the rescue.

For residents of the affected community, the immediate consequence was an armed attack involving abduction and livestock theft, even though the reported victims were later rescued.

Separate armed incident reported in Musawa

In a separate incident in Musawa Local Government Area, police said suspected bandits barricaded the Kiryoyi-Dangani Road at about 1:30am on October 7.

Police said an armed encounter followed and the attackers fled.

Police later reported recovering the body of one suspected bandit and a machete.

IDNN has not independently established the circumstances in which the suspected bandit died.

The safest verified formulation therefore remains that police say the body was recovered after the encounter.

Two incidents, different locations

The Kankia and Musawa incidents involved different locations and different immediate consequences.

The Kankia attack involved alleged abduction and cattle rustling, followed by the reported rescue of three residents and recovery of livestock.

The Musawa incident involved an alleged road blockade and armed encounter, followed by the reported recovery of a suspected bandit’s body.

They should not be merged into a single attack.

What happens next

The next accountability questions are whether the fleeing suspects are arrested and what measures authorities take to protect affected communities and road users.

Operational details that could reveal pursuit routes, force deployment or other active security methods are excluded.

For now, the verified position remains:

Police say three kidnapped residents were rescued and 12 rustled cows recovered after an attack in Kankia, while a separate armed incident was reported in Musawa. Police also say the body of one suspected bandit was recovered after the Musawa encounter.
